Getting to Know Our Family

“...that they may all be one...”

WHO WE ARE...

Christ’s Community Church came into being in February 1994 by the joining of two separate churches in Cookeville, Christ’s Fellowship and New Hope Community Church. After six months of prayer and discussion, the two churches, both with distinct histories and ministries in the community, felt that God was calling them to come together as one body - a new body - to chart a new history and walk a new path. What God has done in bringing these two fellowships together in complete blending and harmony is a vibrant testimony of true Biblical and spiritual unity, especially at a time when churches are known more for their division and lack of cooperation.

We feel that our name expresses what we are all about at Christ’s Community Church:

We want to aid you in every way possible in your relationship with CHRIST. We want you to come to know Him as Lord of your life, and to grow in your understanding of and personal walk with Him. We want to be a catalyst of unity in our COMMUNITY, working with and alongside all the churches and Christians in our area who follow Christ to reach into and meet the needs of the whole community - to fulfill the words of Jesus’ prayer:

“that they may all be one...that the world may believe
that Thou didst send Me.” (John 17:21)

We strive to continually be growing stronger and stronger as a group of brothers and sisters who come together as a CHURCH, truly loving each other as family, meeting the needs that each may have, actively encouraging each other in our relationships with God and each other - living under Christ’s lordship as a spiritual family.

ABOUT OUR CHURCH...

  • We have no formal membership. Our “membership” is made up of those who choose to attend.

  • We do not “pass the plate” for our offerings. Each person should give as the Lord leads and prospers him. We do not want to be continually asking for money, yet we trust that the Lord will Provide through the faithfulness of those who attend. Boxes are located at each of the entrance doors for you to give.

  • We are governed by a body of elders, as we believe that the Scripture outlines elders as the basis for government of a local congregation (I Peter 5:1-3). Our pastor is one of our elders.

  • In addition to meeting for corporate worship on Sunday morning, we have Sunday School classes for all ages, Wednesday evening Bible Study taught by our pastor, and small groups meeting in homes. The small groups meet during the week and are designed to allow the people of the church to get to know one another in a closer setting than available on Sunday morning and to allow ministry to take place on a more personal basis.

WHAT ARE OUR MINISTRIES?

We feel that our coming together on Sunday is for the strengthening and encouragement of one another in “love and good works” (Heb. 10:24) and for our celebration in corporate worship. We encourage every person to become involved in ministries outside our being together at church. We maintain contact with many ministries that operate in our community and encourage everyone who seeks a place to serve to consider the needs that exist. We promote participation with community organizations such as the Cookeville Rescue Mission, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Clearing House, Lighthouse Christian Camp, New Frontiers Challenge Center, and others. We will provide assistance for anyone to establish contact and find a place of service.
We are also involved in the support of missionaries, both local and foreign, working with such groups as Wycliffe Bible Translators, the Navigators, Campus Crusade for Christ, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and Young Life.

WHAT WE BELIEVE...

  1. We believe that there is one God, creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existent in the persons of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  2. We affirm the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in power and glory.

  3. We affirm the deity and present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. We affirm that the Holy Spirit provides spiritual gifts to all believers, manifesting them as He wills, and thus, by their proper application, empowers all believers for effective service. We affirm that all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are operative today.

  4. We affirm the Holy Bible, consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired, infallible, inerrant, authoritative Word of God, that is completely reliable, and that its truths transcend cultures and time.

  5. We affirm that salvation is by grace, through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. We affirm that repentance toward God, faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are necessary and sufficient for salvation.

  6. We affirm the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved to the resurrection of life and those who are lost to the resurrection of damnation.

  7. We affirm the one universal church which is the body of Christ. We affirm Jesus, the Messiah, as its head. We affirm all who are born again as its members. We affirm the church’s purpose as offering the worship of God, fellowship, ministry, and instruction to itself, and evangelism and service to the world. We affirm the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

  8. We affirm believer’s baptism by immersion in water, and the importance of regular participation in Holy Communion.

  9. We affirm the ministry and presence of angels, the reality of Satan and demonic forces.

  10. We affirm the sanctity of all human life, including the unborn. We affirm the sacredness of Christian marriage and chastity outside of marriage.

  11. We affirm the call for all Christians to participate in the Great Commission of our Lord - to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.
